Events Accessibility Coaching

You’d like your worship service, concert, conference, gala, or other event to be an accessible, inclusive space where everyone is welcome, but you don’t quite know where to begin, and you’re a little intimidated by CART, captioning, hybrid spaces, and other accessibility tools. Or maybe you already know some access basics, but you’d like to learn how to do more. Events accessibility coaching may be perfect for you!

As a coach, I cannot personally coordinate or ensure the accessibility of your event. This is partially because that level of coordination is not a service I offer, but also because doing so is not in line with the ethos of disability justice. Access is a collective project that needs to be worked into every aspect of your event planning from the start. And it certainly can’t be managed by just one person!

That’s not to say that having a disability coordinator for your event itself is a bad idea (in fact, I highly recommend it!), but one knowledgeable person, or even a small group, cannot be everywhere and cannot oversee every aspect of your planning, especially if they’re an outsider. It’s integral that your entire team becomes familiar with the process of accessible planning, so that they can work together to create truly accessible events from the ground up, and to take notice and course-correct when mistakes happen (as they inevitably will at times, no matter how amazing and experienced you become!).

Let’s start, however, with what accessible events coaching is not:
What accessible events coaching is:

I will help you evaluate your existing space and event plans through the lens of accessibility; we’ll go through a basic, non-exhaustive checklist of accessibility features, get curious about potential barriers to access in your setting, and brainstorm creative ways to overcome them within your budget. You’ll learn how to build accessibility into your events, get meaningful feedback, and feel comfortable starting conversations around access in your community. I will also recommend technical resources to further your learning and assist material changes and help you build competency around disability etiquette and inclusion.

I use a tiered scale of $100, $150, and $200 an hour coaching to make this service more financially accessible. You may select the tier that feels most appropriate to your organisational budget and circumstances.

$200: If you're a larger, more affluent, or otherwise well-resourced  organisation, consider choosing this tier.

$150: If you're a mid-sized or smaller organisation with some staff and a tighter budget, consider choosing this tier.

$100: If your organisation is volunteer-run, has a very small budget, or is otherwise less resourced, consider choosing this tier.
